Abdul, 63

Abdul lives for a short period of time in Tilburg West but he has lived in Tilburg for as long as eleven years. Abdul is now 63 years old and lives in Tilburg West for around fourteen months. Abdul had lived in the Piushaven area for a long time but had to move out of his house due to personal issues. He is now well established in the Moluccan neighbourhood in the Kruidenbuurt, he enjoys living there and has fell in love with the charm of Tilburg West. He also has a lot of friends and relatives so he is never lonely.

Abdul is positive about the neighbourhood and says it is nice place to live in due to the living conditions. He says it is neat and it has not a lot of trash. He also enjoys the green in West and likes to walk through the Warande and Het Wandelbos. He was amazed by how big Het Wandelbos was and even got lost. These are all signs of excitement and said he didn’t really had that in his last neighbourhood. That is also one of the reasons he quickly adapted to living here, he knew West already a little bit and the nice hotspots here sure helped that even more.

We then asked the question about the reputation of Tilburg West, it is not that great. Abdul doesn’t think the reputation is totally correct, but he mentions that he can tell that there is a lot of drug traffic. He can recognise the cars, because of his past and knows that there are some bad people around in the neighbourhood. He continues to say that the bad reputation is not correct and that these things happen in other parts of Tilburg as well, not only in Tilburg West or Noord.

A hotspot for Abdul is the Tilburg University and the forest there. He likes the Warande and loves to go for a walk once in a while. There is a lot to do and experience in West. That follows up the question about activities here and Abdul says he wants to do some volunteer work in a local community centre.

He concludes that it is a nice neighbourhood to live in and that people will like to live here. He says that it is easy to get in contact with people and that they don’t look at his origin. That is the advantage of living in a multicultural neighbourhood like Tilburg West!
